Emily Nathan

Emily Nathan’s musical and dance training on stage began when she was just four years old. She competed in many callisthenics competitions for ten years. She then continued her vocal training in the Australian Girls Choir and travelled overseas and nationally, performing to audiences of thousands. Emily continued to perform in singing ensembles as an adult, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She has performed in countless performances and concert venues including; Haydn’s Creation, Carmina Burana, Beethoven Symphony No.9, Britten’s War Requiem, Brahms Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Hamer Hall, Melbourne Town Hall, Sydney Myer Music Bowl, St Patrick's Church, 2011 Australian Football League Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Emily became a passionate German Lieder singer while at university, which encouraged her to move to Europe to immerse herself in the language and culture of her favourite composers. While living in Vienna for over ten years she had the opportunity to perform with the Wiener Kammerchor, Oper Klosterneuburg, Oper in der Krypta and Neue Oper Wien. She has showcased her skills to perform repertoire from Early Music through to Contempory works. Some highlights include The Tales of Hoffmann, Pallas Athene Weint, The Elixir of Love, Proserpina and La forza del destino.

Emily has had the pleasure to work with many wonderful teachers and coaches such as Michèle Friedman, Georg Lehner, Olivera Miljakovic, Ildiko Raimondi, Pantelis Polychronidis, Jimmy Chiang, and Joëlle Bouffa. As well as singing German Lieder, Emily also performs in French, Italian, Hebrew, Yiddish and English. Most recently she has worked with the Australian Composer Calvin Bowman on his song cycle Over the Brow of the Hill.

Emily also has over 15 years experience as a classroom music teacher, choral conductor, as a private singing and english teacher. She is passionate about choral singing and the positive effect music has on the human body. She studied this extensively while completing her Masters in Musicology at the University of Vienna.

Emily is now based in Baden bei Wien (20 minutes from Vienna, Austria.) Most recently she has been honing her theatre skills in Musicals and Operettas, and has played roles in productions such as The Merry Widow, Titanic, My Fair Lady and Im Weißen Rössl.
